South Carolina Income Tax Information
South Carolina has a simplified income tax structure, which follows the federal income tax laws. South Carolina accepts the adjustment, exemptions and deductions allowed on your federal return with few modifications. Your federal income is the starting point in determining your state income tax liability.
Aiken County and City real estate taxes are based on the market value of the home and may be determined by using the following formula.
Market Value x .04 = Assessed Value x .1642 (combined city and county mill. rate = tax)
The Tax formula above applies to Aiken County and City Residents only.
There is a different formula used for non-resident owners.
For homestead exemption for those over the age of 65 deduct the first $50,000 of the market value and use formula above
